During 15-20 April, 2013 the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in St. Petersburg hosted the LXVI International Conference "Herzen readings 2013."

April 22, 2013 is the 94th birthday of the prominent Soviet scientist Lev Vasilievich Ovsyannikov. He made a huge contribution to the development of mechanics and applied mathematics. His work marked the beginning of new research directions, that are being actively developed in our country and abroad. Results of L.V. Ovsyannikov in gas dynamics, theory of fluid motion with free boundaries, investigation of mathematical models of continuum mechanics have become classics.
He developed methods of group analysis of differential equations,which are widely used in various fields of mathematics, mechanics and theoretical physics.

April 2, 2013 N.H. Ibragimov and R.K. Gazizov visited the University UFABC in Brazil to sign an agreement about Russian-Brazilian cooperation in the field of group analysis.
As a result of the meeting it was decided to create the first in South America Research Center for group analysis.
Main objectives of the new center: research in the field of symmetry of mathematical models in natural sciences, the joint participation of graduate students from UFABC and USATU in research and teaching activities, creating a database on group analysis and the scientific cooperation development in the field of group analysis.

L.R. Galiakberova obtained outstanding results in the field of computer mathematics. As a result of her investigation of properties of non-linear self-adjointness of the Krichever-Novikov equation, a conclusion was made that it is advantageous to use computer algebra systems for solving problems demanding labor intensive calculations and involving higher-order derivatives. |
